Are sharks really the bad guy?

Sharks. Sharks are creatures that inhabit the world’s oceans that mostly everyone fear. With sharp, razor like teeth and quick movements, sharks are easily classified as the number one predator in the ocean. But why are humans so scared of them? The answer is easy, Jaws. Jaws, a book written by Peter Benchley, was turned into a hit movie and was released in 1975. The movie depicts a great white shark hungry for human flesh who attacks people in the waters of Amity Island. Until the movie release, no one really though of being attacked by a shark. After the release of Jaws, people went into a shark frenzy. Many people began hunting and killing sharks, greatly impacting their population. People were so afraid of sharks they wouldn’t even step foot on the beach, The movie impacted how people saw sharks greatly. People saw sharks as killers and monsters. But are sharks the real monsters? The answer to that question is no, humans are. According to Marine Policy, around 100 million sharks are killed by humans per year. Yes, you read that correctly 100 million, possibly more. While only around 12 humans are killed a year by sharks. How crazy is that? So that leaves the ultimate question, are sharks really the bad guys? With those numbers, I personally believe they’re not.
